Fire Service NZ
The fire service for the Pukenui Region. When there's a fire, a crash on State Highway 1, or a storm rolling in off the Pacific, they're the ones who turn out.
What they do
- Structure fires in homes, shops, and sheds around the township.
- Vegetation fires in the scrub and forest on Kauri Ridge.
- Vehicle crashes on the highway and the beach, cutting people free when they're trapped.
- Storms and flooding when trees come down and roads close.
- Medical calls, backing up the ambulance when they're needed.
Joining
Fire Service NZ runs its own recruitment. Apply through the fire service site and they'll take it from there.
Opportunities include working up through the ranks, learning rescue and rural firefighting, and leading a crew.
